Sacred Water & Sacred Food – Üsküdar Renewal Experience
Hop on a public ferry, cross the Bosphorus, and spend a day in Üsküdar — the kind of Istanbul neighbourhood where tourists rarely end up, and locals are glad for it. It’s quieter over here, a little slower, and it feels noticeably more like a real city and less like a theme park.
The day follows the story of water: how it shaped Istanbul’s streets, its mosques, its daily rituals, and its social life. You’ll visit grand Ottoman fountains commissioned by women of the imperial court, wander past forgotten street wells, and end the afternoon in a hamam that has been doing its job since the Ottoman era — very effectively.
In between, there’s a proper sit-down at a neighbourhood lunch counter, a browse through a herbalist and a small grocer or two, and a general appreciation for the fact that some parts of this city have stayed exactly as they should be.
Come in comfortable clothes. You’ll be scrubbed clean by the end!

What is the itinerary like?
Take the ferry to Üsküdar: A 20-minute ride with beautiful Bosphorus views.
Visit Mihrimah Sultan Mosque: Learn about its fountains and Ottoman water traditions.
Walk through the neighborhood: Discover old wells, street fountains, and ablution pools.
Stop for a tasting: Enjoy soup before the hamam. Ayran or şerbet, and something fresh from a bakery after the experience.
Finish at Şifa Hamamı: Steam, scrub, soap massage, and time to relax on warm marble.
What is the best time for this tour?
The Sacred Water & Sacred Food – Üsküdar Renewal Experience is enjoyed all year round, however best in spring (April–June) and autumn (September–October), when mild temperatures, soft Bosphorus light, and seasonal produce align naturally with the themes of renewal and nourishment. Summer is possible with an earlier start due to heat and humidity, while winter offers a quieter, more introspective atmosphere where the contrast between cool air and the warmth of the hamam deepens the experience.
