Historic Highlights Of Constantinople
Sultanahmet Square
Sultanahmet Square
We will visit the Topkapi Palace, once the opulent residence of Ottoman sultans, followed by the other magnificent landmarks of the area. These include the 400-year-old Sultanahmet Mosque (Blue Mosque), known for its striking blue Iznik tiles and grand architecture, the 2000-year-old Roman Hippodrome, which was the center of political and sporting events in Byzantine times, and the awe-inspiring Hagia Sophia, built in the 6th century by Emperor Justinianus, a symbol of the city’s long and diverse history as both a church and mosque.
After a morning of exploring these incredible sites, we’ll enjoy lunch at the historic Sultanahmet Köftecisi, a beloved restaurant famous for its delicious, traditional Turkish meatballs (köfte), offering a perfect way to savor Istanbul’s culinary heritage in an authentic, time-honored setting.
