Overview

Crafts in Istanbul’s Old Bazaar

Shopping in Istanbul can be exciting—but it can also feel overwhelming. With so many shops and sparkling displays, it’s not always easy to know where to find authentic crafts or fair prices. This experience takes you beyond the obvious storefronts and into places where traditional Turkish arts are still practiced and appreciated.

Starting in the Old City, you’ll visit small cultural foundations and artisan spaces where crafts such as calligraphy, miniature painting, marbling, ceramics, embroidery, and traditional doll-making are kept alive. You may see artists quietly working at their desks, shaping clay, guiding ink across paper, or painting delicate details that take years to master.

From there, the walk continues through historic market streets toward the Nuruosmaniye district and the legendary Grand Bazaar. Along the way, your guide will share practical tips on how to recognize authentic handmade pieces, understand traditional techniques, and navigate the bazaar with confidence.

By the end of this experience, you won’t just have explored one of the world’s great marketplaces—you’ll understand the stories, skills, and traditions behind the crafts that make Istanbul so special.
