A Day In Ovacık Village
A Taste of Village Life in Ovacık
Leave the city behind and spend a day in the peaceful countryside near the Black Sea. Just an hour from Istanbul, the small village of Ovacık welcomes you with open tables, fresh food, and the quiet rhythm of rural life.
Your morning begins with a generous village breakfast prepared by your hosts. Fresh bread, homemade cheeses, seasonal vegetables, and traditional flavors fill the table as everyone gathers and starts the day slowly.
After breakfast, step out for a gentle walk through oak forests and open fields surrounding the village. The path winds through peaceful countryside where wild plants grow and the sounds of the city feel far away.
Back in the village, the day continues around the kitchen and garden. Together with your hosts, you may roll dough for traditional pasta, prepare homemade jams, harvest fruit, pickle vegetables, or learn how yogurt, cheese, and vinegar are made.
Nothing here follows a strict schedule. The day unfolds naturally depending on the season and what the village has to offer. It’s a simple, warm experience shaped by food, nature, and genuine local hospitality.

Project Partner: Sile Municipality
This project, aims to develop an experience-based tourism model by providing the visitors with the opportunity to experience local tastes from field to fork, local culture, and traditions. It is also targeted to increase the economic welfare level and life quality of the local people utilizing responsible tourism activities to be implemented in Ovacik, a forest village that is 60 km to İstanbul and 10 km to Şile. The project enables the local people to grow their traditional food, harvest (in a Permaculture garden) and experience the art of cooking. Recipes will be prescribed with traditional food training. While all these are being experienced, local people and visitors will be informed about the principles of responsible tourism and responsible business. The aim is to diversify the livelihoods of local people and income generation by creating a sustainable tourism initiative.
